Know Your Dirt – Basics of Understanding Your Project Site
For real estate professionals investing in and developing real estate projects, evaluating the dirt underneath is as important as the structure built on it. You will learn the importance of surveying and contracting for civil engineering services on a real estate project; how to get a basic understanding about your project site such as topography, wetlands, drainage and environmental conditions; how to read and understand information from a soil report; how to resolve environmental issues; how to determine a property’s future capital requirements; and more.

James D. Succop, P.G., Principal/Subsidiary Director of Environmental Services
James D. Succop has more than 28 years of experience in environmental consulting services. He is a Principal of the firm and currently serves as the Subsidiary Director of Environmental Services. Mr. Succop’s professional expertise is largely focused on redevelopment of brownfields properties in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.
Scott S. Stannard, P.E., Principal Engineer/Assistant Branch Manager
Mr. Stannard has more than 14 years of experience in geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing, currently overseeing a staff of over 250 people. He has worked on more than 1,500 projects, including geotechnical, materials testing, support of excavation, instrumentation monitoring and temporary/permanent drainage projects, to name a few, including work in every market sector in the DC Metro area.
Richard D. Storbeck, P.E., LEED AP, Vice President Mid-Atlantic region
Mr. Storbeck has more than 26 years of professional engineering experience, Mr. Storbeck manages the Facilities Group, overseeing a staff of nearly 30 engineers, managers, and field technicians. He provides Principal review and consulting for building enclosure services encompassing exterior wall, roof, and below-grade waterproofing consulting and testing services for both existing buildings and new construction.
